AN DIE MUSIK: GERMAN ROMANTIC MUSIC FOR ALTO FLUTE AND PIANO
arr. and ed. Elisabeth Parry and John Alley
A collection of beautiful German Romantic music arranged for alto flute and piano, bringing together some of the greatest songs of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Music by Schubert, Schumann, Fanny Mendelssohn, Clara Schumann, Hugo Wolf, Richard Strauss and Alban Berg has been carefully adapted to suit the rich, lyrical voice of the alto flute.
From Schubert’s An die Musik and Schumann’s Widmung to Richard Strauss’s Morgen! and Zueignung, these arrangements offer rewarding recital and concert repertoire for alto flute, with music ranging from the immediately accessible to more challenging works for advanced players.
The collection is ideal for alto flautists looking for substantial Romantic repertoire beyond the relatively limited original literature for the instrument.

“Great Transciptions for Alto Flute! Transcribing wonderful songs for the flute is always a good idea, especially if the arrangements are as classy as these. The choice of songs is very appealing too. Schubert and Schumann are perennial favourites, and the addition of songs by Fanny Mendelsshon and Clara Schumann to fly the flag for the women, and Richard Strauss and Alban Berg which are more challenging to interpret, give this volume an extra depth. They are all lovely and work really well for the alto.” Review by Chris Hankin
