PORTAFOGLIO PER I DILETTANTI OP. 67 by BRICCIALDI
A virtuoso tour de force for two flutes and piano by 19th century Italian composer, Briccialdi. Known as the “Paganini of the flute”, Briccialdi composed over 200 pieces for the instrument, mostly variations on opera themes of the day. His music is imbued with all the charm of the bel canto style, and the Portafoglio op. 67 – like the Briccialdi Carnival of Venice for flute – is full of his signature style of romantic melodies and virtuoso fireworks. A great alternative to the better known Doppler and Köhler duos, this is a significant new addition to the concert repertoire for two flutes and piano.

“Sparkling music for two flutes and piano”
“Another great edition of a little-known Italian classic. Written in one movement, the variety of the writing expertly holds the interest. There are solos for both flutes, lovely lyrical melodies, dovetailing flutes in thirds and sixths through sparkling runs, a cadenza, a brief unaccompanied passage for flutes alone, and the usual virtuoso build-up to the grand finale. This really is very lovely music!
